Tories
In the United Kingdom, the Tories were one of the two British parliamentary groups from the seventeenth century, ancestors of the Conservative Party. Renowned as close to the Stuart dynasty, they favored a strong royal power and defended the interests of the landed aristocracy. Inspired by the mistrust of the House of Hanover, which suspected them of collusion with the previous dynasty, the kings of the eighteenth century preferred the Whigs. In the nineteenth century, the progressive extension of the suffrage led the Whigs and the Tories to organize themselves into political parties. The Tory parliamentary group brought together its local associations, creating the Conservative Party.

In the nineteenth century, the progressive extension of the suffrage led the Whigs and the Tories to organize themselves into political parties.
